Portfolio Management
Portfolio management supplements the program management function for complex multi-workstream programs, and is concerned with providing specialist support in the definition and implementation of those workstreams in a consistent and co-coordinated way as well as the co-ordination and integration of those workstreams between organizations and departments. Portfolio management requires a big picture view with significant experience of the workstreams involved.
It focuses on the content of each of the workstreams and their inter-dependencies in terms of data, functionality, technology consistency, interfaces/APIs and business process flow. It also focuses on the stakeholders and drivers for complex relationships relevant to the program such as:
- intra-company (e.g. other departments or business units),
- inter-company (e.g. business partners) and
- extra-company (e.g. government agencies and oversight groups)
The portfolio management function would be responsible for updates to logical architectures during the implementation phase of the transformation program.
Portfolio management is also critical for multi-country roll-outs to manage any regional variations to the program – e.g. language, currency, local regulations or laws
